Anthony Lealand will speak on the chemistry of the fireworks his company uses in international pyrotechnic displays. The talk will include demonstrations with indoor fireworks. There will be some smoke in the room from the demonstrations. The ventilation will clear this quickly.

Anthony is CEO of Firework Professionals Ltd, having 25 years of experience in the business. He set up the business after leaving his post as Senior Demonstrator in the Physics Department of the University of Canterbury. Since then he has grown the company to include seven full-time staff in Christchurch and a network of 45 contractors across New Zealand and the South Pacific. Anthony’s expertise led to his being invited by ERMA (now the Environmental Protection Agency) to become one of the first test certifiers, covering a wide range of class 1 fireworks and special effect classifications, and to write the Code of Practice for Fireworks.

Over the last few years Firework Professionals Ltd has run a range of international pyrotechnic seminars, symposia, choreographic firework competitions and festivals. Current work involves the development of user-friendly Pyro musical interfaces, pyrotechnics for theme parks, and the development of military simulation devices for an undisclosed overseas country.
