I work in Product Development at New Zealand Pharmaceuticals , the company is a manufacturer of pharmaceutical intermediates and diagnostic products. In Product Development our job is to identify and develop new products for NZP and develop processes to make them that can be safely scaled up in our factory. The work we do is very varied, from working at the bench, in the pilot plant or in the factory. Process development also includes developing appropriate analytical methods for our new products.
I decided to do chemistry at university after having a great teacher at school, about second year I began really enjoying the subject and kept studying. Some of the things I enjoy about chemistry is the fact that you do keep learning and the intellectual stimulation that goes with that. There are always a number of different ways to solve a problem which is both a good and a bad thing. The practical side of chemistry is also fun, much better than sitting at a desk all day.
